Malawi Investment Forum Boosts Economic Activity In Lilongwe; Flights, Hotels Fully Booked

Thousands of foreign and local investors are this week converging in Lilongwe for the  third edition of the Malawi Investment Forum (MIF),  an event that has totally excited the local economy in a range of ways.

This publication has confirmed that all flights into Malawi for the past week are fully booked, so too with all top hotels and lodges in the capital city and surrounding areas.

Carriers such as Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, South African Airways and the nation’s flag carrier Malawian Airlines say the MIF2018 is the main reason they are having good business this week.

“The investment forum couldn’t have come at a better time. As we close this financial year we have a good profit boost of return tickets from all over the world. This ia very good for our profit margins,” said an official from Kenya Airways.

Accommodation places are also tapping into the frenzy. The host venue Umodzi Park will probably be the highest earner as they are providing both the accommodation of guests and conference facilities.

Interestingly, lodges and hotels as far as Kasungu, Mponela, Dedza are also booking a host of investors who have opted for the out-of-city serenity.

Most of the foreign visitors have also booked car hire services to shuttle them within Lilongwe during the Forum.

The event also promises to be a 360 degree tourism experience. A snap survey among travel agencies also shows that these investors have also booked accommodation in lakeshore resorts after the conference to appreciate the beauty of Lake Malawi.

Since 2015 when the first forum was held, billions of investments have taken place in Tourism, Energy, Agriculture, Finance and Services sectors.
